Lately It Seems, Norton Needs a Special Removal ...

tool for complete un-install. There are 2 I know of and one is for 2003 & earlier & one for 2004 up. Here's the link to both:

Additionally, afterwards you could a search for files & folders looking for Norton, Symantec etc and delete if any found. If you have a 3rd party reg cleaner you could run that also. Were you trying for whole Security Suite or just AV? If "just" whose firewall have you got or will get? What other (several) anti-spy/ad ware programs do you use?? Good Luck in removal. I dumped mine some years ago & went AVG free. They do have a pay version that includes tech help (reports say pretty good. Nortons said to be pretty poor).
Hope this helps you. Happy

Norton has become like AOL...

once they've got you, they want to make you thier property.

A search of Files and folders for Norton or Symantec, as well as multiple Finds in the registry for Norton or Symantec may reveal many files.

I just Uninstalled Norton 2005 No Problem on a friends comp
Dec 26, 2005 6:27AM PST

Hi Coach,

My Ladyfriends computer had Norton 2005 A/v installed from Dell but her subscription ran out. She is not the kind of person to be on the Web where she needs any kind of A/V, but we all know that's a mistake. I had no problem going to ADD/REMOVE programs & uninstalled Norton 2005 no problem at all.

I then installed the FREE AVG for her. WE are both happy with the end result.

Ah.....

Being a tad paranoid about these things, I always wonder if the stuff left allows them access via some back door I don't know about.
This is why no matter what program I do away with, I search for hidden files and pull them.

Some are quite big and take up a lot of memory, but if that's not a concern to you, great.

Good Show, Steve! In This Case, He's Got a Botched.....

install (never sucessfully completed) so usual Add/Remove may be unsatisfactory as only some files may be registered, possibly not even the un-installer. Nice to know not every case needs tool. Happy
