Getting Netsky D from someones office computer..

Mar 13, 2004 11:22PM PST

If a computer that is infected with Netsky in on a network in an office, can it gather e-mail addresses to send itself from from another on the network?I had pretty much pinpointed which of my contacts computer is sending me the virus. At first I was thinking that
it was his individual computer where he works and sends e-mail from on a daily basis. Now I'm wondering if it actually has to be the computer that has my address stored on it or if it could be another one on the network that has the virus and is able to access his info.My computer checks out ok even though I've been receiving these for at least 2 weeks.I recognized the subjects and atts.size, kept checking as newer versions of Netsky kept coming out, it is definitely "D".I have not opened any, am deleting them from the server, also deleting DBX deleted items folder.Updating antivirus and scanning daily with AVG and online scans. What else can I do while I wait for someone to realize they have a virus? Blocking them really doesn't help since they are always from a new spoofed sender.Hope this makes sense, I am pretty clueless.TIA for any help! Jo

Hi Jo,

you can't do anything as .....

W32/Netsky-D is a worm that spreads via email. When emailing itself the worm can spoof the sender's email address. Why don't you download and install MailWasher - so you can SEE what's on your server and can delete the e-mails from there??

The account that I am getting the virus sent to and the one I use for most personal e-mail is Hotmail .I don't think I can use Mailwasher with it.Maybe I should download the program and start using another e-mail account, one that Mailwasher supports. Thanks for the advice, I think I will try it....Jo
