Getting more than a minute of video on youtube

Nov 8, 2007 10:49AM PST

I use a mini DV camera that downloads to my 1.2ghz athlon on a firewire card at AVI standard into windows movie maker on XP sp2?

But after saving it as a WMV file and keeping it at less than 10 megs to get it to youtube it sucks. As I understand youtube takes the windows file and further compresses it to a Flash file (FLV)?

I see others that can get 4 minutes of file presented and can only imagine they uploaded a FLV file to begin with.

Here's the question:

Is there a FREE software that will allow me to edit and save to FLV format?

I just started researching this and see Riva has a producer program but it doesn't appear free. Is it shareware or something similar, or do they require payment?

Is there another program that I could use to get this done? That's free?

Or a converter that will allow me to edit in windows, save as edited avi or something then covert to flash file as needed? For free?

I got lost in that.

1st off it took forever to resolve a webpage w/dsl then dropped me into some technical mumbo jumbo about Sony Vegas?

I'll assume Sony Vegas is something that comes with Sony equipment, of which I do not have. Or is sold outright.

If perhaps I need to go with something along these lines, what is the FLV? standard used at youtube come out to be technically speaking ?X? at what framerate and size??? etc etc???????

I think I've found something

I googled about today and found some freeware called super from erightsoft.net

I've taken avi and compressed/encoded it to FLV and am trying some youtube uploads right now.

I'm still open to suggestions though.
