Getting bumped off the internet

Mar 31, 2009 4:42AM PDT

My laptop:

Compaq Presario CQ50-210US Notebook PC
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium PC

Desktop:
Compaq Presario S6100NX
OS: Windows XP Home Edition

Modem: Actiontec GT701-WG
Qwest DSL

We don't use a router at present.

Using Mozilla FF Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.Cool Gecko/2009032609 Firefox/3.0.8 (Both PC's)

Issue:
After using the internet for anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour we get bumped off, meaning that the pages slow way down just prior and then suddenly we get "Error Lander" pages and no internet connection.

The internet light goes off on the modem. We can reconnect by resetting the modem (unplug and then replug). The desktop is usually fine at that time, but I find that I have to restart my laptop to get reconnected.

This seems to have begun after a recent issue with connectivity (shortly after setting up the new laptop). The issue was resolved by Qwest customer service (an entire day of trial and error to get it right). UGH!!

We are wondering if you know what might be causing this issue and how we can deal with it. For several years until now, there has rarely been a connection issue, we are connected for months at a time. This is a royal PITB!

Thanks in advance for your kind help!

Our Networking forum has a sticky post with preferred settings. You have 1 of the 4 done. Since it's their router (it is a router) you have to ask them to fix it if its failing.

TalkToQwest would like to help
Apr 3, 2009 9:15AM PDT

Hello, my name is Steph, I work for Qwest, that issue sounds like it's very frustrating. If you would like me to look into it for you, please email me at talktous@qwest.com, and put Steph in the subject line. Additionally, if you could include in your email the problem info (like from your first post), and your billing number, name and address, I would be happy to try to help you get this situation resolved!

thank you
