getting a "windows is not genuine" message at startup

I recently got hijacked real bad. I cleaned most of it out of the pc. But i am still getting that message and I can't use internet explorer. When i open explorer a internet cleaner ad pops up instead of my home page. When i click the homepage button it just keeps going back to the ad page. I am using firefox to write to you guys. Any suggestions
thanx in advance

AFTER!!!

In reply to: getting a "windows is not genuine" message at startup

After I cleaned up a machine I had to perform a XP REPAIR INSTALL (see google) as well as use MAGIC JELLYBEAN KEYFINDER (you can use any method/tool to change the key back) and finally I was able to re-register my XP license.

You should ask that friend about that. Without those CDs you can lose use of the machine.

Without CD (busted would be great), no CDKEY, no COA, no receipt then you know what happens next. I see XP Home for 199 and XP Pro for 299 at the local office stores. Hope its worth it.

Click on illegal copy of windows notification.

This should link you to activate the product or purchase a legal license.

If this is a vendor unit (HP, Compaq, Dell, etc)
you may be able to purchase a restore disk set.

Might Try Spybot 1.6 Running In ...

In reply to: getting a "windows is not genuine" message at startup

"Advanced Mode". In the Tools section (lower left button) there is a home & search page section which will allow you to reset your home page and erase the rest by changing to nothing (back space out whatever is currently there. It'll likely get the rest of it as well during ,ain scan. Free & worth a try.

You don't say what's on machine now, If you have an old Spybot on board you could do the same or completely remove it before installing new 1.6 version. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html
Un-Install directions:
http://www.safer-networking.org/inde...tail=uninstall

After following un-install instructions, run small tool:
SPYBOTS' SMALL REMOVAL .REG FIX: http://www.safer-networking.org/files/remove-spybotsd-settings.reg

>>>Important Note: Since Spybot Treats Each User's Desktop As a Separate Install For Settings Purposes, The Disabling Process MUST Be Done Manually From Each Users Desktop Version Both For Settings & AV & AS Disabling. Check All Done & OFF On All Desktops!! Good Luck! Happy
