Getting a new laptop battery

I don't know much about laptop batteries and need buying advice. I want to buy a battery for an Compaq laptop that currently has a 6 cell battery, that doesn't last very long. Any advice is appreciated.

And discover the issues with non-maker batteries. From "doesn't work" to charge or use issues you learn you just go to HP.com and order a new one.

Yes, feel free to rant but the BATTERY FIRES meant the makers must lock out the non-approved replacements.
