Gentlemen start your engines.

Vista was a new feature called Performance Information and Tools. With it you can rate several categories of computer performance. I thought it might be interesting to start an "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours" forum. Here are my results.

processor 4.7..............................memory 4.3...............................graphics 5.9...............................gaming 5.6................................hard drive 5.3

This feature can be accessed from start>control panel>performance information and tools> click the "up date my score" button> wait 60 second and then post them here on Cnet. Since I'm primarily after video performance and I have a low cost machine with a few tweaks I'm fairly happy with my results.

My equipment is:
Compaq sr2050nx
820 Pentium D processor
Nividia GeForce 8600 GT graphics card
250 SATA hard drive
40 IDE hard drive
D-Link DGE-530T GB ethernet adapter
2GB RAM, Kingston
DSL 758/kps (Actual speed 575/kps/approximate)

DSL link speed tests can be run at this site:

Nice graphics card!

My primary system produces the following:
Processor: 4.4
Memory: 4.5
Graphics: 4.6
Gaming graphics: 4.0
Primary hard disk: 4.3
Overall (lowest): 4.0

It does everything I need, with an Athlon64 3700, 2GB RAM, 2 160GB PATA HDs, and an MSI GeForce 6600GT (256MB/128-bit PCIe), and earns respectable scores but I'm still considering building a new based around an Intel Core 2 Quad. Just have to convince myself I need it when I don't. Wink

Internet speed, though, is the strong point: I'm now at 8Mbps with speed tests consistently reporting over 6Mbps download and over 500kbps upload.

Do you like this idea?

I thought since Vista had the performance feature in it that we could post our results and hardware and maybe learn something from it.

Great connection you have there. DSL? Cable? TI?

I'm hoping to improve my Processor performance number soon and by getting a 900 series Pentium D.

Have you heard of any over heating problems with the quad core? I would imagine most run it water cooled.

I listed the adapter because I just picked it up and it has really improved the responsiveness of my net connect, pages load faster, graphics look better and even videos are improved a good bit. It's a 10/100/1000 card and cost about $30.00.

This computer is running pretty good but I maybe at the limit of my power supply and over heating still is a problem if I use it for over four hours or put demands on it like virus scans, defrags, etc., anything that involves the hard drives.
