General Protection Fault

(Gateway 400 Select PC; Windows 98 SE; 160MB RAM; IE 6 SP1)

It has been many moons since getting a message like I did this morning. While booting up, a message came up as follows:

RNAPP caused a general protection fault in module KRNL.386.EXE@0002:00002c9e.

I did a control alt delete and got another box that had similar words about IExplore. After another control alt delete, a box came up with words, "system resources are dangerously low."

I did control alt delete again and it restarted, and all has been going well (I think).

My question -- is this a "permanent" error and will cause problems all along; or did a restart "fix" the situation?

I've sort of forgotten all about BSOD's and other error messages, as I have not had them for sooooo-oooo long. I do get the program has caused illegal operation often, but I close it and go on my merry way as if nothing had happened. Thus far, I've been able to continue what I'm doing after doing that.

I would appreciate your input on this please, as I've forgotten how to react to these creatures.

Thanks -- Julea
