Gateway TA6 Laptop Fan Stops, Startup Hangs

Got a Gateway TA6 touch/swivel screen laptop. When I press the power button the motherboard and fan make sound for a moment then both stop and the computer remains off. The screen is black the entire time, displays nothing.

Have removed the battery and only used outlet power and vice versa. No help.

Anyone have an idea what this would be caused by? Motherboard problem, power problem...?

It actually did this about a year causing me to assume it was dead and put it on the shelf. Only recently after moving did I attempt to turn it back on, and hey- it powered up and worked great for a few days. Now it's dead again.

Help?

I have the same problem with the same laptop. Did you ever figure out the problem? Care to share?
