Gateway sound problem

May 23, 2010 9:02PM PDT

I have a sound problem on my 64 bit Gateway that even gateway can't help with. My system is:
Vista Home Premium
DX 4200-09
64 bit
AMD Quad-Core 1800 mhz
4 GB Ram
The problem is I keep losing my sound. I have followed Gateways suggestion as to how to fix the problem. The only thing is that the fix want stay fixed. I was told to uninstall the drivers and restart the system and the drivers would be reloaded. well they do reload but want stay loaded. Just about every time I boot up I have to go through the same thing. Another way I can get mt sound back is to plug a sound card in s pci slot. I don't have to load drivers just plug the board in and I get my sound back and whem I lose the sound aqain I unplug the sound and the sound returns. Any thoughts??

Been there.

After encountering this I found 2 cures.

1. Backup my files and use the machine's recovery media.
2. If item 1 fails I disable the onboard sound and use a sound card.

Thanks for the comeback Bob. You got any suggestions as to which card is best. It has to be 64 bit.
Thanks again
