Gateway Solo laptop & upgrade to XP Pro

Feb 7, 2005 4:03AM PST

I have a Solo laptop (PIII, 512 mg ram) that came with W98 2nd ed on it.

I want to update the operating system to XP Pro, and do a clean install instead of an upgrade. (Clean install is an option for those who wish to go that route).

My main question is, "Do I have to update the bios on this laptop before doing this chore?"

And next, if the bios does have to be updated, can I download the bios update from a Gateway website, or will I have to pay them for it?

Thanks in advance,
Rick
