Gateway MT6836J runs vista, want to reformat to XP pro..

Jan 10, 2008 2:20PM PST

Has anyone tried to reformat a Gateway MT6836J notebook/laptop that currently runs vista and I want to get rid of that and put XP pro on it.
I have tried all i know, and when i made it boot from the disk it said it could not find the hard drive.
I then tried again this time pushing F6 and seeing if my recovery disk that was created by the shop for me. However it does not work, the screen keeps saying that I need to insert the system recovery disk etc.

I am going mental, as the operating system is in Japanese and thought it would be rather simple for this to be done.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Sorry, it is not simple. Just read this forum.

-> Why not return it and get what you really wanted?

So your saying that if I want to re format it, out of all the brands in the world gateway does not allow it? I find that very strange.

Hint...

You may need to track down the SATA drivers for that model since that can give XP fits. Beforehand, though, try disabling SATA/RAID in the system BIOS...it works for some.

where?

Do I push F2 to go into the BIOS. I think I tried to see if I could see something that looked like SATA/RAID and could not see anything, but I will try again.
If that fails, how would I find the SATA drivers for my model?
I'm computer litterate but not 'full on'.
cheers

But you didn't answer my question. I can't find the English version of this laptop. Since you have the laptop you can compare it to Gateway models and see which you think it is.

This is where you get out and push the discussion along.
