gateway m320 laptop vista sound problem

Aug 17, 2010 2:18PM PDT

i have successfully used windows xp for years on my gateway m320. xp crapped the bed, so i started using vista. i like vista with one large exception: no sound. vista says that the driver appears to be working properly - vista is showing the device as realtek AC'97 audio - but there is no sound.

gateway m320
windows vista ultimate service pack 1
pentium m processor 1.7 GHz
1.25 GB RAM
32-bit OS

I don't see it

I can see audio drivers for the M320 for Windows XP, but none for Vista at Gateway's Support site.

I have to ask how this Vista upgrade was done. Did you ask Gateway whether this machine was compatible with Vista and if so what additional drivers were needed?

thank you. when trying to reinstall xp, it would get halfway through, give me a bsod (so quickly, i couldnt see what was going on), reboot, and start again. i put vista ultimate after formatting the hard drive. i never contacted gateway about whether or not vista was compatible with my laptop. i may do that later today if i still cant find anything.
