Greetings to all.
Requesting assistance from any knowledgable member of this furum.
Have purchased this GEEK-SQUAD Pre-set Gateway laptop in May 2009 at Best-Buy in Naples, Fl. Connects well to router but Explorer "cannot display pages". Came with Norton anti-virus 60 days free trial, I did not activate, yet downloaded Avast anti-virus. immediately following activation of avast, explorer had problems displaying pages. Deleted avast & downloded AVG anti-virus, problems with explorer unsolved! deleted AVG, explorer works fine! Since an anti-virus is a must, I am truly at a lose how to resolve the problem.Unable to contact the Geek Squad or Gateway by chat, both DO NOT assist customers outside the USA & Canada. Laptop came with 3 recovery discs made by the Geek-Squade. Am presently in Europe. Would highly appreciate any constructive help ot assistance from members of this distinguished forum. Kindly reply here or to nomis101@gmail.com
Thanking you all in advance.

Greetings to R. Proffitt,
Your kind reply & suggestion are highly appreciated!!!Thank You.
My laptop was checked and it was established that a virus has lodged itself without possible trace. Each time the anti virus was activated, explorer would not display pages, that course of action was done with 3 different anti-virus prog. Avast,AVG & McAfee with explorer "dead in the water". Once those anti virus prog's were deactivated, explorer came to life! The technician strongly suggested to instal all 3 Gateway recovery discs, thus over-riding the existing virus and in the process, installing only the items I want and need.
Per your experience and knowledge, would that be an accetable route to resolve the problem once & for all? Again, many thanks for your kind reply. shelpif111

They could be right.

There are rootkits and more that escape detection. But your story is far too short for me to offer any other course of action. For example you could have written that Firefox works, or email works or any other clue that would have me offer another avenue.
