Gateway C140XL - Is it a good tablet?

Nov 27, 2007 10:18PM PST

I am looking to buy a tablet pc. I was looking at different publications and what they recommended. No one had the Gateway C140XL on their top ten list, atlhough the reviews are good. Does anyone know what the problem is with that particular tablet pc?

What tablet are you using now?

The tablet bombed (again) in the market so you will never find it on any list that uses market data unless they list just the tablets.

You really need to try it.

And the usual "I'm going to take notes" idea fades in a few days so that's not good.

There's a reason I ask "what tablet do you use now" and it's to find out if you have found a reason to buy one.

-> Also, look around you and see how many tablets your coworkers or students are using. If none, you may consider there is some wisdom there.

Will use the tablet for education.

I teach at a university and I was going to use the tablet to get more interaction with the students when doing powerpoint presentations. In other words, as we have discussions, I would write new points on the tablet and they would show up on the powerpoint slides. This would make the class more interactive.
I don't know anyone who has a tablet.

I already do that with a mouse.

There are also tablets you add on, etc. Since you are not adding any new functionality you may be paying for the convenience of touching the screen to do this.

We can also add touch screen to existing machines such as http://www.superwarehouse.com/HP_L5006tm_15_LCD_Touchscreen_Monitor/RB146ATABA/p/1487190

I do a fair bit of touch screen support in my applications. One of my softwares is for a factory floor. But after all the work they opted for cheap displays and no touch screen. My software works fine with keyboard, mouse, barcode scanners, etc. My other software is on the Palm PDAs so I'm a bit more in tune with touch screens than I will let on.

But I find the laptop tablets to have fair too much premium for what they bring to the game. However since the market didn't show up you should find them for no premium if you shop around.

tablet pc??

I was considering getting a tablet and have been discouraged from doing so after reading your posts.

Is there such a thing as a tablet that scans documents? If so, that would make it worthwhile for me.

Does the Tablet PC have a scanner built in?

"Does the Tablet PC have a scanner built in?

The Tablet PC is made to be very portable and lightweight. There is no scanner built into it.

Do portable scanners and/or printers work with the Tablet PC?

Yes. Tablet PCs have additional ports available for connecting peripherals."
