Resolved Question

Gateway AIO ZX6971 Boot up

Feb 25, 2015 12:22AM PST

I have an issue on any restart of ZX6971. 1 beep then 3 beeps and again 3 beeps then black screen. However live in MN and if PC is set outside at 25 deg for 3 minutes it will start after 1 initial beep and run great all day with no issues. I have tried to reset memory in slots with no luck. It has been suggested motherboard has failed. I have a DBGD711001 motherboard installed, 3.3ghz..
Any suggestions on best resolution or further tests to perform?

Repairs costs

I did a quick check and for the amount Amazon wants for parts is almost as much as a new AIO. While you have deemed a "quick chill" does wonders that suggests either a damaged solder land or blown cap or some overheated component on mtrbd.(most likely). If your skillset allows you to delve into the innards, then at least check for obvious damage. You can google for any parts swap or what you want to do. I offer Amazon link for an idea and if Amazon offers this, then that also suggest this is a common problem, IMHO.

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=gateway+zx6971&tag=mh0b-20&index=aps&hvadid=4965979580&ref=pd_sl_2sjc830mrl_b

I strongly suggest you check the fan or cooling setup, you may have a bad fan or compromised one. Again, check the innards. Robert pretty much hit on the same points I would have.

Have to agree.

The temp fix is a sign there is some failure. Since no company repairs boards, you change that. I will not agree it's the mainboard but the tech would swap that or another board in the machine to fix it. It's not a good idea to put it in that temperature since you could lose the LCD next. Get your files out while you can.

Gateway AIO ZX6971 Boot up

Since I do not store any files on PC until issue resolved, I am evaluating the cost of repairs of a new board at $300 plus tech support. If I felt certain it was a board I would DYI an OEM if advised. Not certain any precautionary steps necessary for proper startup after install. Like the PC and would like to resolve.

Get estimates.

Since we don't have access to all the tools and such, it's just a best guess it's the mainboard. Some of these have other smaller boards so without a repair depot resources you go with your best guess.
