Gateway?

I tried to buy a Gateway Notebook. Nothing crazy. Added some memory, a bigger screen, and a better graphics card. Was told 2 weeks, fine. After 2 weeks I got a e-mail saying 2 more, then 2 MORE 8 WEEKS to build a NOTEBOOK? I obviously canceled my order, and will tell everyone with in earshot of my experience. I even went so far as to write the president of Gateway, and what a surprise, I got a form letter back. saying sorry for the trouble, please shop Gateway again.
Has anyone else had anything this bad happen?

I've experienced delays from IBM, Dell, HP and such.

Yes, it's bad out there.

I've never had any delays from computer manufacturers yet

But i've only bought 3 computers, so i guess its your odds or when you buy.
