Gateway 7426gx

Ok, I have a Gateway 7426gx laptop. It has windows xp home, 1gb ram, 100gb hard drive etc. More spec information can be found at http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/7000Series/4651sp3.shtml. I bought this laptop about 6 months or so on ebay. It has been working well up until now. I just use my laptop like normal and all of sudden it shutsdown, no warnings, nothing. The air vents seem to be working properly, I can feel the air comeing out of them) It happened one time when i was using firefox, another time when i was trying to install a theme. I recently reinstalled everything on my computer. (Via the restore function) If anyone can help me, i would greatly appreciate it.

It is heat.

In reply to: Gateway 7426gx

"AMD Athlon? 64 3700+ Processor" and under power "19 VDC, 6.3A, 120 W output".

Try a laptop cooling pad and remember to get the vents and heatsinks cleaned yearly.

do i get the heatsinks and the vents cleaned by a professional or can i do it myself

Once you've seen it done...

In reply to: cleaning

Most will not pay for others to use the can of compressed air. Remember to just give it a shot or air and not to try to fill it up.

The laptop cooling pad for this model may be non-optional. I own the older R3000 with a 2.0 GHz Athlon 64 and I must be careful about blocking the vents, keeping it clean.

do i get to the heatsink by removing the keyboard? if so, do you happen to know or know where i can find out which screws (specific to my laptop) to remove on the bottom of my laptop to remove the keyboard?

Never found it useful.

I'm more the lean and mean type. That is if I find I can do without a program I dump it.
