Gateway 5438 320g HD, 4gb RAM

Aug 11, 2008 11:40PM PDT

I can't seem to download any programs to my system. I downloaded a hd utility from gateway, ran it according to gw instruction. No error shown. I had it write 0's to clean my hd as I picked a couple of trojans somewhere along the line.
After re-installing vista, I can't seem to install any antivirus or other programs that I had prior to the clean sweep. I get a "file is corrupt" error message. I would appreciate some help before I yank out what little hair I have left!
TIA George R

Those trojans could have corrupted the boot area.

Did you try removing all partitions prior to installing from Gateway's RESTORE DVD? If you are doing some clean install then the Windows install is rather tedious with some 10 drivers or more. Be clear and tell exactly what Windows you are installing (factory DVD or other.)

Thanks Bob.
I reset the CMOS, and I think that solved the problem. At least so far, I'm just now getting 'stuff' to install. I used the Gateway system disc to reinstall, which I've done before. Looks good so far.
Thanks again
George
