Gateway 4540GZ durability???

Jan 8, 2005 2:20AM PST

I hear scattered reports hear and there of 'someone' saying the Gateway 4540GZ has bad hinges and poor screen quality. I have never actually had someone tell me this...is it a rumor, or are these actually quality issues. It appears BB stopped selling the 3520GZ so its either the 4540GZ or paying $200 extra to order it from the Gateway store online. Thanks

go to this link...I saw this at compusa, its very thin and light, but there u have to pay tax

http://products.gateway.com/products/gconfig/prodhmseries.asp?seg=hm&gcseries=gtwym320

At gateway.com u can get it for 1499-200$ instant rebate- 150 $ mail in rebate....u can remove the accesories like the notebook case which are very costly
You can get this 5.5 lb sleek model with the 400$ less at gateway, and upgrade it to brightscreen for 20$ more. It is an ultraportable with all the features except for a dedicated GPU.

Gateway 4540GZ durability OK

The concerns over the Gateway 4540GZ durability (hinges and screen quality) are unfounded. I have searched several reputable laptop review sites and there is no mention of these problems. As far as I'm concerned it is a good laptop for the money. I would have bought one, but my daughter preferred the 3520GZ because it is 2" narrower (of course screen is 14" vs. 15").

Gateway 4540GZ = poor
Jan 19, 2005 12:22AM PST

Just bought a Gateway 4540GZ yesterday, returning it today. Everything is fantastic on the system EXCEPT the graphics card: apparently to save money, they installed a substandard one. The thing crashes every time I try to play the one TWO YEAR OLD game I own. It also crashes every time I try to fast forward a dvd, any dvd.

To find out what the problem was, I called the gaming company, who pointed me to the fact that the Intel Extreme video card is a piece of junk. Called Gateway; the customer service rep, in so many words, confirmed that interpretation.

STAY AWAY FROM this notebook if you plan to use any graphics-heavy applications.

Not sure if this helps...

But I looked at the 3520GZ at BB last night...so I don't think all of them have stopped selling! It was the BB in Columbus, OH, at Polaris.

Other than that, I know nothing about them, as I'm shopping around myself.
