Gateway 42-inch Plasma TV EDTV

Jul 13, 2005 7:53AM PDT

I have a 42-inch plasma from gateway. I was wondering if there is anything I can do about the picture. I have dish network. I do not have a HD receiver just a normal DVR. I have it plugged into the back of the TV with S-Video. The receiver does not have DVI output, or Composite video input. My problem is that my TV gets really dark sometimes while I am watching something. If I change the channel it get lighter and the picture is better. Also when I am watching something sometimes it does not have a good picture of people?s faces (faces appear solarized). This is hard to explain. If you look at someone?s face on the screen it looks like patches are on it or something. But this only happens sometimes. Can anyone help me? I was thinking about getting a HD receiver form dish but I am not sure this will fix my problem. I have not had any problems with this TV. Have my computer and all my game systems and DVD player and everything works great but these two problems.

Does this happen on just the S-video input or on the others? ON DVDs are you using component? John

John,

I know this happens on S-video. It does not happen when I play a DVD on component. Also sometimes it will happen when I watch something I downloaded on my computer. I have my computer plugged into the RGB port. Last night it was happening so I turned off the TV for 10 sec. and when it came back on it was fine.
