My Garmin NUVI 255WT works relatively well except when I place in the windshield of my new Toyota Highlander. The Highlander has a UV protective coating which seems to impede the aqusition of satellite signals and in some cases has caused the NUVI to get lost. Garmin does not offer an external antenna for this model. Can anyone suggest a current Garmin GPS that supports the addition of an external antenna?

My nuvi takes up to 3 minutes from a cold start. I can imagine some folk would think this is because of interference.

Also, in severe rain it will lose the satellites.

When I use my NUVI in my 2005 F150 it works just fine and locates satellites within the 3 minute window. However, the last time I used it in my Highlander I drove close to 100 miles before it found out where we were then got lost several times on an 8 hour trip.

Garmin customer support suggests that I place the unit in a side window. Sounds dangerous to me. Still looking for a suggested unit that supports a remote antenna.

Thanks for the info on the external antenna, looks like a great product for improving reception. Unfortunately the NUVI 255W that I have does not have a connection that the antenna can use. Looks like I will have to purchase a new unit, one that supports external antennas. That's what I get for going cheap.
