Garbled graphics w/ Radeon 9600. Suggestions?

Oct 19, 2004 3:38AM PDT

Not sure if this is the right section, but am having some problems with video and graphics on my PC. The machine functions perfectly for normal tasks (Windows, IE, whatnot) but video and 3d graphics are terribly garbled and deformed. Some Windows animations (like the file copy animation) are also distorted with purple lines drawn across. There are also somewhat evident vertical dashed lines drawn on parts of the Windows XP and motherboard boot screens. The problem is very recent. Any suggestions?

Specs: homebuilt machine, AMD XP 2400+, 512ram, Radeon 9600.

Not sure if your motherboard has on-board video, but if it does, make sure it's been disabled in the bios/setup.

Also make sure you have the latest DirectX version installed that would be compatible with your video card (it's a good card, btw).

You can run the diagnostics for DirectX to make sure things are in synch, too. Great trouble shooting tool.

Do you have an adequate wattage power supply???

Is the ATI board getting adequately cooled?
