GarageBand not loading

Mar 23, 2008 10:22PM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz running OS X 10.5.2 in 4Gb of RAM with approx 60Gb hard disk space free. GarageBand goes through initialising process, the programme menu items appear briefly and then it terminates with no further indication of what is going on. Anyone else suffering the same problem ? I am using the latest updated version of GB.

Thanks,
Ally.

You could try
Mar 23, 2008 11:06PM PDT

1. Repairing Permissions, although this seems to do less and less as the OS numbers increase.
2. Reinstalling GarageBand.

Hi - tried both of these, in various combinations, but still no luck. Any other ideas !?!?

Not right now, but

there is a Garageband user that frequents the Mac forums.

Mayhap he will be passing this way soon.

Sorry

if you meant me that is Wink.

To the original poster:

Does GarageBand ever hang on the initializing window? Or does it load normally before quitting on you, like you said? I know that the latest version of GB fixed the problem I, and many other GB users, had with the initializing window, which would appear for at least 30 seconds or so before it actually opened a file or greeted you with the new project menu. Seeing that your Mac is up-to-date, I do not think we will have to worry about that.

There is always the possibility that there are some corrupted preferences files. You may not want to delete them, but GB should make new files in the event that they are gone. Those can be found in the Library somewhere... I think it is under GarageBand in Application Support, but they do not show up in either of the libraries on my old iMac here...

Normally I would check permissions for something like this as well, but if you've already done that, then it might not do any good. Does Console report anything odd when you attempt to launch GarageBand? Console is in the Utilities folder and may report on some problems if it finds any. Try looking there.

Fixed it !

Hi BMF,

Had a look in console as GB was starting up. The only thing registering was that Stoplight was loading up. I added GB to the list of Stoplight exclusions and it works fine now.

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction Happy

Ally.

I only pointed the poster in the right direction, and I was only guessing at that Wink. I'm glad I could be of assistance.

Hopefully Apple will release updates to Leopard to fix, or at least change, Spotlight. It's interfering with too many things it seems. Tiger didn't act like that Grin, but I still like Leopard.

If you start having issues with Time Machine, try rebuilding the Spotlight index with a tool such as Main Menu. Spotlight conflicted with my back-ups, and I found some readings in Console indicating this. I suggest this since you said that Spotlight was causing the problem here, so you may want to keep that in mind for future reference, should anything else happen.

Glad I could help.

Try this,
Feb 15, 2009 12:57AM PST

put the Garageband preferences, Home > Library > Preferences, into the trash.
Files you are looking for are:
comp.apple.garageband.cs & com.apple.garageband.plist

Relaunch GarageBand, it will create a new set of preferences, and see how it goes.

Let us know

GarageBand not loading a specific project.
Jun 29, 2010 7:01AM PDT

I have a similar problem. I was working on a song and then hit command+s to save it and my computer died seconds after, just before completely saving. (I had saved the song minutes before) When I turned my computer back on and tried loading the song, it went to the initializing/loading bar but nothing happens after that. sometimes when I try to load it, it goes to a different project or goes back to the load projects screen. its extremely frustrating because I know its there and all my other projects work fine, but that project just will not load. seems like the rarest problem but I really need help getting that project back. any ideas?
