What version of GB were you using, what Mac,

and do you have your original restore disks/iLife disk? If you have the disks to any of those, just put them in and reinstall it. Easy.

But if you just have the restore disks, I'm afraid you may have to put Tiger or whatever system you originally had to get it back. Or if you hadn't upgraded to iLife 08, you could go ahead and buy that to get the new stuff anyway, though I've heard some bad reviews on it.

i have all my original disks. i put in the instillation disks to tiger in because i thought that is where garageband would be but i couldnt find it on the disk. I will not be purchasing ilife 08 because i have seen it and know it blows. so I ask where on the original disks for tiger is garageband or is it somewhere else entirely?

It is in the bundled software.

put your original installation disc in, and scan down to the lower part of the finder window. Do you see a folder called BUNDLED SOFTWARE ?

Double click on it and you may see an installation icon.

Double clicking on this will reinstall your additional software, including Garage Band.

................................WARNING ...................................

If this is the way your installation disk is set up, I am not 100% sure following this option will allow the archive and install option the way the system installer does. If it does not offer ARCHIVE AND INSTALL then following this method may erase iPhoto, iTunes, and other library items. Then again it may not... I don't know because I have never tried this option. The installation package may allow you to just install Garage Band in the INSTALLATION OPTIONS, too.

Another method which I have never tried is using a program called Pacifist which is a 3rd party program that can open up an installation package and allow you to manually install certain components. I have never used this program but mrmacfixit told me about it, and he is very knowledgeable when it comes to macs.

I would try the BUNDLED SOFTWARE installer first, and look for the option to just install Garage Band.

Let us know if any of these methods work.

cheers

here. How did you delete GB in the first place? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It would be in the bundled software alright, and if I remember correctly from my restore disks, it may have had a feature that allowed just the software to be installed... but I haven't used my disks in two months, so don't trust my faulty memory.

It would be interesting to see what happens to your MBP if you ended up downgrading from Leopard with an archive and install on the HD. Wonder what Tiger would say about it's new cousin's files... LOL.

good call with pacifist

well pacifist worked perfectly allowing me to install garageband off the instillation cd. However, to think of it I honestly cannot remember how it got deleted in the first place so I have to wonder about its compatibility with leopard. Has anyone used garageband 06 with leopard?

I have it running nicely currently myself.

On my iMac G4, which some of you may have heard my tales of its slowness, GB runs great! Of course my iMac has iLife 05 on it, but my MBP has 06 and it runs perfectly also. All I had to do was update iDVD and GarageBand (or was it another iLife app?) for the MBP and off it went!

No need to worry about it, unless you end up having a problem with it. I recall using Pacifist to reinstall QuickTime 7.1.3 after 7.2 wrecked my internet video viewing stuff, and it crashed my system. Wasn't pretty, but a fresh install of Tiger fixed it up. Now I have 7.2 again after 2 months, but it no longer has a problem, due to whatever fix was made in Leopard for the Tiger issue. But as long as GB works and runs for you, you'll be set.
Glad you got it on there. After my problems with Pacifist, I don't use it anymore, though I've had no reason to anyway :-].
