Is it true that the MacBook Pro has a buit in mic? I wanted to record my voice and was wondering how you would do that with the Garageband program? Do I need to have earphones with a mic plugged in? Please anyone help me out!

have built in microphones. the macbook pro also has a built in camera too.

However, if you are looking for the best recording quality, I would suggest you get a set of headphones with a mike built into them such as those types that are used for VOIP programs such as Skype. I use a set of Logitech headphones with a mike which connects to my iBook via USB for video narration. I find the built in noise suppression circuitry the headphones use in the mike, allows for a very clean voiceover.

I just opened Garageband and I chose New Music Project and I do see a record button near the bottom. This will sound dumb, but I don't know where the built in mic is located! I know it's a dumb ques. Please help me!

microphone ques for MacBook Pro

Ok, I just grabbed out my Mac userguide from the box ( I don't know why I didn't think about that!), and I checked around and found a picture and it shows that the microphone pointing to the left speaker and the exact text written is "built in under the left speaiker grille". So I opened Garageband and chose New Music Project and hit the record button, but the only thing it records is the little piano that always automatically opens. Help!

The default instrument is the piano, so to change it

go to the Track option and press delete. Then, create a new track, select real instrument, go to vocals, and make your choice. Shouldn't pose a challenge once you know where to go. And if your microphone doesn't pick anything up, check the preferences and make sure the audio input says built-in microphone. It should work for you.
Hope this helped,
