Question

gaming pc or laptop?

Mar 18, 2018 4:00PM PDT

hey all, im fairly new to these forums so apologies if i dont do this question very much justice, im not computer or tech savvy at all so bare with me. my question boils down to getting a gaming laptop or keeping the desktop.

ill start with a small background on why im considering this at all and i would like to say please bring an unbiased opinion to this discussion, i understand alot of the pros and cons of having both and have weighted up the options but cannot come to make a decision with little knowledge i have of computers.

lets start

i had a friend help me build my pc roughly around 5 to 6 years ago and back then it cost $1500 so i managed to get some good tier parts for back then. it has lasted me the full 5 to 6 years without any problems, but as time went on i found myself gaming less and less and with the addition of moving in with my soon to be wife, i find it hard to be able to sit down in another room and game away for hours on end as i use to.
ultimately i would have loved to get a laptop and keep the pc so i could have both to game on and also use the laptop for future studies, but i cant afford a solid gaming laptop (or even a standard issue one) unless i were to sell my pc and set up and cant justify having both.
in your opinion would it be worth making some money off my rig while its still perfectly running and buy a laptop? (possibly upgrading) or would it be worth downsizing my PC so its more portable for around the house?

as i said i do understand alot of pros and cons of each but would love to hear some compelling arguments from both sides of the spectrum.

thank you for any help and advice you can give!

But what is it?

And let's say I build a PCMR system. Would your top tier system hold a candle to the usual 1050 Ti based build at https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds

As to the laptop, that's about all the folk I know use today. There are so many choices today but without a doubt I do like the usual i7 CPU, 1050 or better GPU and SSD with 8 or more GB RAM.

I DO NOT ADVISE Nvidia 1080 GPUs in laptops unless it's so you can get into an 1 to 2 stone weight 17 inch laptop that you part on a cooling pad with the usual 1080p display.

Desktop/laptop

If you need it to be portable a desktop does not fit.

If you sell your 5/6 yr old rig don't expect to get much for it.

Your call which direction you want to go.
