Gaming on Lcd monitor.....help? Please.

Mar 17, 2006 3:55AM PST

Right, here we go. I recently upgraded my system.

From: Amd Athlon 800mhz, Millenium, Radeon 9100-128mb, 512mb sd ram, 30gb Hdd, Oh...and a 19" crt monitor.

To: Amd Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4ghz, Xp Sp2, Geoforce 6200se Turbocache-256mb, 1gb dd ram(pc3200 i think}, 200mb Hdd plus 160mb removable...oh and a 19" lcd monitor.

Basically, pc, love it. Monitor, the jury`s out.
I do lots of general things on pc, but enjoy Fps games too. I realise my new Pc isn`t the fastest in the world, proccesor/ graphics card is nothing special..etc.
What i HAVE noticed on my display when playing fps games..eg: Cod1....is a tearing/ ripping effect on verticals, by that i mean a door frame for example; When i strafe left or right the door frame will tear/rip on the vertical. I can solve this by switching on vertical sync, this does reduce my framerate.
Of course my monitor is nothing special either..: Acer AL1916: 19", 1280*1024, 12ms, (erm...seems to support 60-70-72-75hz (although when i tried to experiment with different scan rates and screen resolutions i ran into probs with my display and my monitor was unable to display my desktop in any way, even though Windows had loaded fine. Kept getting an "Input not supported" box on my screen. Had to connect my crt monitor to get a display.)
My lcd monitor says it will support these scan rates.
If i leave my refresh rate at 60mhz, no problems. But could this be causing my "tear/rip prob.?)
Ok enough of my rambling...please any ideas please?

P.s Please help.

Thanks......simple answer to a long-winded question......er..but...will a better graphics card stop the tearing effect or will i always have to enable ''sync every frame'', because of the low scan rate on my monitor??

Graphics card will solve it

I beleive it's a crime to put a GF6200 with a nice CPU like that. Get an X850XT for $150 from newegg. It's the best value for the $, period.
