Gaming Laptop that can be used for work and gaming

Jul 8, 2018 9:30PM PDT

Hi, my MacBook Air recently died and I need a replacement. I would like a light laptop with decent battery life that can run most games. Something along the lines of a Razer Blade Stealth or MSI GS65. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!

My son has a Razer.

Nice machine but even at under a year old model, issues with heat. It doesn't fail, just slows down unless it's on a cooling pad.

Here's what I'm using -> https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ND01X1Y/
I can't find the exact model I have which is 17 inches as I wanted a tad bigger screen and didn't worry as it's used as a desktop.

Looks good, but one issue

I see... I guess the Razer won’t cut it for me. The specs on the other laptop look pretty good, even though it has an older intel chip. The main issue I have with the Helios is its weight. I’m looking for something a lot lighter. Thanks for your help though, and let me know if you know of any laptops with similar specs, just lighter weight.

The Acer and Asus models sit on desks.

And the desks seem to hold up well under the weight.

OK, my wife picked up a very nice Asus Vivo. She got the 17 inch and there is a 15 inch too.

There isn't a lot of difference in speed from the "older" 7th gen i7 to her 8th gen. But hey, some just can't stand anything less than what might be the latest.

Look at https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07661CYPD/ and it's 15 inch version. It steps back the GPU to the 1050 which is still very nice.

To me, if you were into gaming, the 1060 would be about right but you seem concerned about generations of the CPU over gaming performance.

U can't put gaming and decent battery life
Jul 11, 2018 6:36AM PDT

in the same sentence. Gaming is constant use of the graphics card which burns battery life. You can have good battery life or a good gaming machine. Best advice is if gaming plug it in if you really want a gaming machine.

I understand

What I meant was decent battery life for non gaming stuff. Since I want to use it for work as well.

Battery times are in reviews.

I like notebookcheck.com since they have the usual max to min numbers.

Helios 300, 2018 Version
Sep 28, 2018 12:45AM PDT

Well, I've been using the Helios 300 with the 7th Gen 7700HQ i7 Processor. I haven't experienced anything like this laptop before.

Right now, an even better value is its 2018 version model, that comes with 8th Gen i7 CPU with 6 Cores and 12 Threads, instead of 4 and 8, in the older model that I have right now.

The latest 2018 version has to offer 50% more power in terms of CPU.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Omar
