Question

Gaming (Fortnite)

May 8, 2018 1:44AM PDT

I have an asus computer with i7 6700 processor. It did not come with a graphics card. I bought a refurbished gtx 1060 to save money and haven’t had a problem for the past year. 2 weeks ago I started to experience random freezing on fortnite and figured it was just the servers. But the problem has kept occurring and it happens on PUBG also. I’m not very good at figuring out how to trouble shoot a pc. And I’ve only ever put a graphics card in a pre built computer. So if anyone with any experience with computers can help me, I would appreciate it very much. I can give more information on the situation if someone want to help.
Thanks!

This can have different causes. Let me mention 3:
1. The driver. Maybe it was updated. Try a driver rollback or reinstall the same as you did last year.
2. Windows. Microsoft managed to kill Chrome in the spring update 1803. That might have been driver related, so it's possible that it influenced these games also. They are working on a fix. Try undoing (and blocking) the spring update if it has been done already.
3. Hardware. Try another card.

Does dxdiag (a diagnostic program in Windows) give any errors?

PC Lagging while Gaming
May 8, 2018 3:21AM PDT

Hi, thanks for the response. So I just opened the dxdiag. Under the notes on every page it says no problems found. Also my fps in game is anywhere from 150-200 for minutes at a time and then will drop to 0-10 frames for 2 seconds and go back to normal. And I'm not too sure how to do a driver rollback but ill try to look it up!

ROLLBACK
May 8, 2018 4:33AM PDT

I just did a rollback on the driver and the windows update. Windows update seemed to not effect the lag at all. The driver rollback seemed to help some. instead of completely freezing, it will just lose frames. I'm still confused on why it just started happening out of nowhere. I used to have no lag at all on fortnite or pubg.
