Question

Gaming: Asus ROG or MSI?

Jul 16, 2015 8:49AM PDT

Hi! So, I'll be in college in a couple of months and I need a laptop because of mobility, but I really love gaming, so I want to buy a gaming laptop.
My budget is around 1000€ / 1090$ (max.), and I saw these options:

MSI Gaming GE60 2PE (Apache Pro) -237TW -- 1045€ / 1139€
ROG ASUS G75VX GTX670M -- on budget because it's a used one
Asus K550JX-XX076H -- not the gaming kind but still good specs, 1000€ / 1090$

I always search for Intel Core i7, but there are

MSI Gaming GP60 2PE(Leopard)-421XES -- 780€ / 850$
MSI Gaming GE60 2PE(Apache Pro)-673XES -- 950€ / 1035$

which are Intel Core i5, are they good also? I want to play kinda heavy games like The Witcher 3, WoW, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim... My actual pc can run them but overheats and almost burns my hand.

Core i5 will do fine.

Maybe a one FPS loss but the final choice is yours. Some folk pick on price, some hit the reviews for the highest FPS on the game they want to play.

I've seen folk forget to put these gaming laptops on cooling pads. That's the current technology so put your current laptop on the pad now.

Do you think that ROG is better compared to others?

It's a well known brand, focused on gaming.

2 things. DDR3 and ROG

I am going to guess you're not into computers yet. The DDR3 is more likely to be on the CPU. The models of ROG here use DDR5 for the GPU.

My son had a ROG. Nice enough beast, still works but now outdated thing. He wore out 2 keyboards on it but Asus sold parts so it wasn't so bad to replace them. About 95 bucks each time.

Yes, I'm not Silly but indeed, it says 3GB GDDR5 Happy

95 bucks twice it's something... I'd buy a non-gaming pc with good specs, but I'm worried about the fact it's not meant for games, may lack gaming software and better cooling systems.

I bought GE60 2PE and it's a great laptop for the pricing and gaming performance.
There is a button in the top left corner which can boost the fan speed and prevent the system not caused by overheating or system crashes.

Answer
go for MSI GE60/62

I would go for Intel i7, for assuring quality during the game.
MSI GE60/GE62 is way cooler than GP60. better cooling system, better looks and better configuration, although the price is higher, definitely worth it.
