Games on download.com

I'm interested in the Diablo II game downloads, but I don't know what I need to download to get started. Are these additions to a game I hafta buy retail or is the full game listed? What else might I need to play it that I can possibly get from download.com

From what I understand Diablo II is a huge game and you would be better off buying the disc retail IMO. Download.com has additions to it from what I can see. I don't know if they have the full version or not, you would have to search it. No matter what sort of games you download, you've got to see what is said about each one. Some are demo's, some are retail editions, some are free, some are add-ons. They are all different, you got to read a little about each one.

Thanks, Roddy. Anyone got any recommendations for any of the free games, as I am a full-time student and not working right now. I like RPGs, and I'm kinda lookin for somethin to keep me occupied this winter.

I'm an RPG fan myself but I have yet to find a free one that I like. I just use Playstation or another game station for the larger games like that because they are resources hogs on a computer. Whatever you do, no matter who you download any free games from, ALWAYS read the fine print. The majority of the time, you will be downloading adware/spyware with it. The same thing goes with anything else that is free for download, screensavers, etc.

Just a thought, but have you considered any online RPG's?

In google enter "Online RPG" and you will find a list of different roll playing games, like Runescape, etc.

You haven't said what error messages you get. I notice you are using Windows 98 and I know that there were some issues trying to run a DOS program from Windows.

If the game is really a DOS game you may find that you have to either install the game from the CD in DOS, (ie reboot the PC, press F8 to bring up the Safe Mode menu, and choose, "Command Prompt"), install it and play it in DOS mode, or install the Game through windows to a folder on your C drive, find the program file, right click it, select Properties, and choose the option to play in DOS mode. It's been a while since I have had to do this, so my knowledge has gone rusty.

Are there no Instructions, Installation, or Readme files on the CD?

I have typed in Ultima VIII to Google, and found a few hits, but could see nothing about installation. But I only tried 2 or 3 sites.

Good luck

Mark

Ok, I get a 'divide overflow' error with ultima viii and wizardry. Also, I have a handful of other cd games, but they all play in dos, and I can't get past select sound card. My soundcard is not listed! The only one that'll play is 'redline', which is a very cool game......
