On the Java issue, try downloading the latest JRE: http://www.java.com. It should be 1.5.0_06
On the games issue, first thing to try doing is updating your video drivers. Especially if you're just using the generic supplied ones that come with XP, or the ancient ones that tend to be included on CD with the card.
Right... I have 2 problems. The first and most serious is that no java at all works. Runescape (www.runescape.com) does not work, and neither do other major games. Need for Speed Underground 2 doesn't work, and I presume Simpsons:Hit and Run doesn't, as last time - yes, it has happened before - it didn't but I can't find the CD-ROM
A red X appears on Java problems, and the screen goes black on the Need For Speed problem. I have tried most things possible, and I was wondering if anyone could thing of anything.
The second problem is that when I am playing Call of Duty 2, often when the game is loading, a "Blue Screen of Death" appears, and I don't have time to read the whole thing, as it only appears for a few seconds before the system reboots. The few words that I have read say that, basically, there is not enough RAM for it. I have 1gb of RAM, and there are normally no background tasks running, but it still works. Is there any way you can assign more RAM to games or something like that?
I have a high-spec computer, by far enough for the games:
Microsoft Windows XP
Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Proccessor 3000+
1.00 GB RAM
160 GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE
