Resolved Question

Games

Jan 9, 2014 9:21AM PST

Does W8 come with any games of its own preinstalled? It seems like everything I've tried to play so far is web based Microsoft games that I have to sign in for, even though some are free, or Wild Tangent that are also web based and most seem to cost money or 'web coins'.

I used to play freecell all the time on XP, and although it's here now, it seems to also be web based which takes up the whole screen instead of the old small window

The games that were in prior versions are gone in 8.

The games that were in every version of Windows since 95 are gone. There are numerous games for the new Metro mode, but when I tried some of them, they were buggy, would only run in full screen mode, and a very poor substitute for the older games. I found a freeware version of solitaire type games (Freecell, Spider, Klondike, etc.) called 123free Solitaire from Treecards.com that I like. I like the free version, but they also have a paid one for anyone who prefers. I've read that in Windows 8.1 there's a way to run Metro mode apps in less than full screen, but personally I just do everything in desktop mode and avoid the buggy Metro ones.

Good luck.
