General discussion

Gamers, programmers, 3 monitor display made easy

Hope this isn't a repost.

Beats having a Matrox in the system if you want to go nVidia or ATI. Now Matrox has made the device to step in the middle and do it for you.

Seen it tested with EQ2, WoW and IL2:Pacific Fighters, pretty darn sweet.

Factoids Only I Care About

(with apologies to Peter King of Sports Illustrated)

The Matrox "campus" (3 buildings) can be found a scant 3 kilometers from where I sit and the Sanmina factory I work at produced the 1 millionth Matrox Mystique card turned out.

The downside...
Mar 16, 2006 9:42AM PST

While gaming on three monitors would indeed be pretty nice, I'd want that kind of setup to have multiple applications visible at the same time. Because it appears as a single monitor to your computer, you couldn't set it to put Dreamweaver on the center PC, IE on the left, and Firefox on the right...

I guess you could adjust the window sizes of the programs manually, but, meh. I'll stick with two displays, just as soon as I get around to buying a second one.

Also, I thought this was kind of odd:

"Extremely portable, may easily be taken on the road with you."

Are people going to have multiple 3-monitor systems and not be able to just buy more than one of the adapter?

Got multiple computers?

If you have a couple of older systems laying around, with monitors I might add. You should check out MaxiVista, I have been using it the past couple of weeks and am in love with it.

Its not free, but its not super expensive either. Hopefully I can afford to buy it soon!

Multiple things...

I'm one of those guys who has computers piling up in my den. Linux servers, Win64, etc.. After about 6 computers and about 9 monitors, you have to start donating them to schools and family members. I've used UltraMon, it's not bad, as most of my machines run dual monitors.

For D&D I use a 21" flatscreen to show the guys maps and things, and have my laptop for myself and use UltraMon to do this kinda thing, works decently. Instead of the party mapping everything, I just put everything into layers in Photoshop and uncover it as they move.

I'm a big WoW guy and I fly alot, so this Matrox device may be pretty sweet for me.

As for the portability, the device itself is, but unless you are going to a place that has a few LCDs kicking around, it's not moving far from my place.
