Older computers can frequently have heat related issues from hard use over time. Make sure you've used compressed air to blow out all the dust and junk from inside the computer, around the processor, fans, etc. Look at the motherboard to see if any capacitors are buldging, swollen, or leaking.
Next, make sure all background start up programs and services are limited to only those strictly necessary. When running games, temporarily disable your antivirus program. Depending on your operating system, run Scandisk or Chkdsk/Error Checking and then use Defrag to optimized the hard drive..
Hope this helps.

Fable, lost chapters. My computer is kinda old, but it does (supposedly) meet the requirements of the game. I'm having a hell of a time running it tho. All the video settings are on lowest, and it continually crashes.
Some parts of the game run fine, no problems at all. If there is ocean, it generally dies.
The screen goes blank, as if i'd turned off the comp, but sound and the game is still running, and i can still play the game, minus the screen :/
If i ctrl+alt+del, i can return to desktop, restore the minimised game, and continue playing until it does it again.
If i bump up the screen res to 1024x768 and it crashes, i have to restart the comp.
