Game Purchase

Mar 14, 2011 5:28PM PDT

I had no trouble downloading a scrable game for a trial, but when I wanted to purchase it from C-net, I got a message that it was not available for sale in my area.

I'm very disappointed. If you have any idea where I could purchase the game, please let me know. I would like to purchase it from a reputable site.

Thank you

Might depend on the game. But you forgot tell which 'scrable' game it was.

By the way, we're CNET, not C-net. Such details matter if you play Scrabble.

In addition...

I should note two things:
1.) CNET serves more of the match maker in this case, helping the customer find the software but not actually selling it - CNET sends you to a third-party that sells the software for the software's developer.
2.) I'm curious as to why the seller states you cannot purchase the software 'in your area' - was it a CD version of the game with a limited shipping region? Or perhaps you live in a country they do not support sales to? Just not an issue I encounter very often, so I wonder if it was some kind of glitch.

Scrabble game purchase
Mar 15, 2011 12:47AM PDT

Thanks for your reply.
This was Scrabble Plus downloadable game. I downloaded a trial version. After my time was up, there was a message that I could purchase a download of the game "right now".
I tried to do so and was given the message that the "publisher" is not available in my area (or words to that effect).
I live in the New Jersey, USA.

Our download page says http://www.gamehouse.com/ is the homepage of the publisher. If I browse to the bottom of that, I find links for "Support" and for "Contact us". Clicking one of those might give more help than posting here.

An Informational Piece :)
Mar 15, 2011 6:16AM PDT

Kees..

Mark's post led me here. My curiosity got the better of me.. AGAIN. I clicked on the (CNET) link to buy the game, ONLY to see what would happen.

Have a look: http://download.cnet.com/windows/logic-brainteasers/

I clicked on "Buy Now" link to the right of Scrabble Plus. This is what I was presented with:

'SCRABLLE Plus - Unauthorized
We're sorry. Our Systems indicate you are outside the territory authorized for distribution by the software publisher of this title. Unfortunately, we do not have permissions from the publisher to sell this title outside of our approved territory.
'

Could it be that gamehouse wants to discourages the sale through CNET. Confused But if that were true, why is it there in the first place?

With that said, I'm going back to the forum I came from. Happy

Looks like they no longer offer the game...
Mar 15, 2011 10:40AM PDT

In short, it looks like they used to sell the game, but no longer do so. They never removed the free trial download listing from CNET Downloads, but they did remove it from their own website, and all previous purchase links appear broken. Thus, I'd say that no one falls within the authorized distribution region now, and that your only option is to look for a similar game.

Sorry.

Another "Informational Piece".. :)

I'm SURE "Scrunchy5" appreciates your input. I surely would, IF I were the one interested in downloading a game. No need for apologies. As one of "the few, the ___ , etc", I haven't had time (or interest) to partake in any games. Sad ? Devil ??

All considered: Thanks for your speedy and informative response. No doubt, it will be helpful to those interested in trying to buy Scrabble Plus.

Scrabble Download
Mar 16, 2011 3:48AM PDT

My girlfriend purchased the Scrabble Plus in September (she lives in Florida). When I went to the site she gave me, I got the message that the game is no longer available.
We googled "Scrabble Maven" which is the game I had before. I was able to download and purchase the game. The game is an updated version of the one I had and now accepts words from the latest Scrabble dictionary. The website was Funkitron.
I like the "Maven" version better. The board is clearer. Scrabble Plus uses words that aren't in the Scrabble dictionary. It is also hard to see where the opponent played.
Thank you for responding to my post.
