Resolved Question

Galaxy S4 & Play Store

Jun 5, 2014 6:00AM PDT

Each time I go to disable Google Books, Music, etc, and keep Google Services Framework and Google Play Services, the Google Play Store keeps saying "No connection Retry". This is rather odd because my older phone running 4.1.2 has all that turned off and Play Store works perfect. All I'm trying to do is get rid of the useless apps that I've done some research about and found if they are needed or not. Currently this runs on 4.3 and so far the only fix has to been a factory (hard) reset. Everything else functions normally. Is there some connection to if Play Store works or not when the extras are turned off?
Rooting this darn thing is getting more and more tempting...

You're not crazy.

Samsung and your carrier are doing some terrible things. KNOX turns out to be a great way to lose it all and well, I think the news and reviews have it spot on. Time for Samsung to stop "adding value."

Samsung/AT&T are absurd

Still can't believe the laws allow for this, it's basically controlling your phone, even if you "own" it.
Definately rooting this to see its true potential.

google play store works again

rooted phone, got rid of some of the apps, but first froze all the KNOX garbage then got rid of the AT&T reminder thing by renaming it, went to delete the frozen apps, kept the KNOX and then unrooted via ODIN.

At this point, google play store still didn't connect, so next step was to go to Application Manager, then go to Running, stop the AT&T Software Update, followed by turning on Airplane mode.

Lastly, had to go to Security-->Device administrators, and make Android the device administrator. PRESTO!! Google Play Store finally works! KNOX and its slimy paws are no longer controlling what happens on my phone.
I even have the ability to (somehow) disable it, but since it's a locked bootloader I'm staying far away from that.

Here's the tricky part, I didn't know to let go of the power button, but finally after booting in to recovery, cleared the apps cache partition. Then the phone turned on and disabled airplane mode if it wasn't already disabled.
Result in disabled/removed apps: 250-500MB/2GB RAM being used, WITH google play store fully functional.
All the phone's features are still working like I got it a week ago, the Air Gestures, palm control, the head nodding for scrolling, ect.

I can't imagine my mom doing all that.

But I see you may have the same feeling I have about KNOX.
