Question

Galaxy Core Prime fails to connect consistently via USB

Sep 17, 2015 4:00AM PDT

I have just signed up with Virgin Mobile and they have provided a Samsung Core Prime Smart phone (SM-G361F). When I plug it into my PC via the USB cable it doesn't always connect. If you look in Device Manager it is shown with an exclamation mark. If you look in the driver properties it says: Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37). If I un-install the driver and re-plug in the phone it installs the driver and it works perfectly OK. I had this problem with an early Amazon kindle. In my opinion it is a problem with the driver and the PC software. The drivers is: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd;Portable Devices; Value SM-G361F; Microsoft 21/06/2006;6.1.7601.18738. PC is Windows 7 professional (64bit) all the latest patches are installed. I suspect that the this driver of 21 JUne 2006 may be rather OLD! Is there a later driver on your web site? It would be good
to get this phone consistenly connecting to my PC via the USB sockets. The cable is brand new provdided with the phone.

Answer
Me too. What helped here.

I have a few too many Android and other devices. My Google (bought it from google!) Nexus 7 would do what you noted and in the end I found that using the USB cable that came with my Nexus worked so much better. In fact it works 100%

Now I bought some 6 pack of USB cables which rarely work for data but charge just fine.

And finally there's my old desktop. The front ports don't work right even with good cables I discovered before. That's no driver issue but an industry issue.

I can't see what PC this is but here it turned out to be something else.

HOWEVER that 2006 date looks too old. I see 2015 at http://www.android.gs/download-samsung-usb-drivers-for-android/

Cable brand new
Sep 17, 2015 10:57AM PDT

The cable I am using came with the brand new Samsung Galaxy phone. The URL for the driver software is blocked by just about everything on my PC for security! There is no problem with the ports as far as I know on my PC. It is running Windows 7 Prof 64bit and all patches up to date. I do need an up to date Samsung driver, preferably from Samsung not and Android site that is suspect for malware etc... according to the protection on my PC. But thanks for answering. I have sent an Email to Samsung about the problem.
