gadgets

The very useful currency (exchange) gadget that used to be available on Windows 7 no longer works (since 10 days ago).
Is it possible to resurrect this, albeit in an unauthorised, unsupported way or is there something equivalent out there? Just why did this and other gadgets get zapped?

So security wins and the gadgets had to go away. All this is on the web so that's the short version.

It was insecure because other authors was abusing it. You may want to see if your browser has an addon that can do what you are looking for. I know firefox has one. There is one for win8.1 in the microsoft windows store.
