General discussion

G-d bless the U S of A

Instead of responding to the anti-war rally of Terry, I thought I would post a new thread.
Listen to the introduction, do NOT skip it.
It is about 2- 3 minutes long and well worth it.

The site was created by a naturalized American citizen.

It is an introduction/tutorial

for someone preparing to become an American citizen. If you click on the 'skip intro' button, you will be directed to another website. But, I thought the introduction was a nice way to remind those anti-war loonies what 'this war' is all about and some people that appreciate this, sometimes more than a natural born American, are the immigrants who decided to make America their home.

Got it!

I had to click several times on ''stop intro''.

As I read through the web site, I wondered how many people stopped on the street would be able to answer many of the questions. I admit that sometimes I forget some of them.Sad

The creator of the web site will be a welcome new citizen, and will contribute immensely to this country!

And God bless the freedom we have to peacefully express our disapproval with our leaders' policies. In less tolerant and free societies such acts would be seen as disloyal and unpatriotic, the people engaging in them might be subject to government eavesdropping without warrants, and would likely lead to imprisonment or worse.

Actually they should thank our country's founders

Our current leaders (Democrat OR Republican) had nothing to do with giving us those rights.

Many of our rights weren't granted by the founders either.

We hold these truths to be self evident. That we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights. Even a Federal court or a Constitutional amendment cannot take away those rights.

Defending the country is one way to protect those rights. The Supreme Court also makes sure our rights are protected.

The name is Henry.
As far as spelling out God's name, it is an old habit, I am not sure why, but when I was young I was told it was not proper to spell out God in print, but rather to write it as G-d.
Can't explain the origin.

I don't know about your specific situation ...
Apr 30, 2006 10:31AM PDT

There are a lot of people who carefully avoid saying or writing the word 'God' or God's name (Elohim, Jehova, YHWH et cetera depending on your beliefs) because of the prohibition on taking God's name in vain. Hmmm ... I guess I just demonstrated that I'm not one of them.

As I understand it the motivation is to eliminate the risk of violating the commandment by refusing to write the word or say the name.

I don't really know which groups have done this the most. I've seen the practice primarily in conservative Christian and Jewish circles but there may be others as well.

It's probably an off shoot of the Old Testament. The Hebrews

did not want to violate the commandment about taking God's name in vain. Therefore, they never said the Name. They used an abbreviation in its place. It is YHWH which we pronounce as Yahweh. Note that Yahweh represents God's name, but is not actually His name. It gets a bit confusing at times.
