- Top Ten spyware most frequently detected by PandaLabs (10/16/07) -

MADRID, October 16, 2007. According to data gathered by Panda
ActiveScan, Panda's online scanner, the MyWebSearch PUP (Potencially
Unwanted Program) is the most prevalent spyware on users' computers.

This malicious code has been designed to replace the results displayed
by certain search engines with others that take users to the web pages
of companies that have paid for this.

The second most active spyware in September was Gator, an adware that
shows advertisements to users. The third most frequently detected
spyware is also adware: Lop, which, besides showing ads, changes the
Internet Explorer home page and modifies the results obtained by certain search engines, among other malicious actions.

Virtumonde, a key-logging spyware capable of capturing confidential
information, takes fourth place, while the SaveNow adware is in fifth.

Spyware most frequently detected

The rest of the list is occupied by adware, most of which display pop-up ads while users surf the Internet, in order to take them to certain web pages.
