Further File Deletion

Aug 13, 2007 6:40AM PDT

Is there software that will further delete files so they can't be recovered after they've been emptied from the Recycle Bin?

Once they are deleted from the Recycle bin, they are gone (although with some luck and dedicated programs they might be recovered). The thing you need to do to totally delete it, is to "shred" it, in stead of moving it to the recycle bin forst.
http://www.google.com/search?q=download+file+shredder has useful hits. Choose the one you like.

Can't be done
Aug 13, 2007 11:13AM PDT

With enough skill and resources at one's disposal, even using secure delete programs MAY result in data being recovered. Odds are however, that most people wouldn't even know how to recover normally deleted files, let alone any of the others.

Just remember that there's ALWAYS a chance someone could recover stuff from your computer. Even if you set the drive in a pool of burning jet fuel, there's a chance. It's merely a matter of skill on the part of the person doing the recovery work. So be careful about keeping files around that you might not want being found later. With the western world rapidly heading towards full blown police states, you never know when something might come back to bite you.
