Question

Full amount of Memory does not appear in Win10 64-bit

Mar 11, 2017 2:26PM PST

I figure I must be doing something wrong.

- How can I tell the total amount of memory in use? Task Manager gives me a a percentage but I want the actual amount. I cannot believe I am using 76% of my 8GB memory with what I have open.

- I've run Belarc Advisor and it says: "3256 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory" but shows: Slot 'DIMM0' has 4096 MB & Slot 'DIMM2' has 4096 MB. I know 32-bit Windows could only use arouns 3.2Mb, so is it possible I'm not running at 64 bits?

- The OS says: Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1607 (build 14393.693)

- Here's the Processor info:
2.95 gigahertz Intel Core i7 870
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
8192 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Hyper-threaded (8 total)

Does the 64-bit ready mean it could run in 64 bit mode but I'm missing something or need to set a parameter somewhere?

- [edit - adding MB info]
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D Rev 1.xx
Serial Number: 101279810003396
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0209 07/28/2009

- Do you need any other info?

Thanks,
-Rick

Answer
Looks right. Why?

The CPU has some Intel graphics that can use some RAM. Nothing broke here.

Right?

"Some RAM for Intel Graphics", that's OK. But more than 4 GB?

On my PC with 4 GB RAM and Intel graphics Belarc says "3958 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory." That sounds quite reasonable. Exactly the same as Windows 7 64-bit, by the way.

I'm afraid I don't output from Belarc any more made when it ran Windows 7 32-bit a few years ago.

CPU graphics using up 5.5G of my RAM?
Mar 11, 2017 3:09PM PST

It sounds like you are saying that the graphics portion of my CPU is using 5.5G of my RAM. Can I verify that somewhere?

Also, I failed to mention that I was running a separate graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I found a section of Task Manager that gave me a summary of RAM in use. It says: 70% 717.5MB (which calculates out to 1,025 MB is 100%). I do not see how that can be correct.

Look up.

Answer
Strange.

Download RAMmap.exe from www.sysinternals.com (a Microsoft company, can be trusted) and see what it says. It shows total RAM conveniently in the first page, and shows how much is "locked for drivers".
You might find it interesting to download the whole suite of programs.
