fujitsu-siemens amilo D 8850 crashing

by crackcode / April 4, 2005 8:24 PM PDT

3,2Ghz P4, 512 DDR, ATI mob radeon 9200, 80HD, homeXP.
configuration seems to be good working horse.
for 3 month since buying everything was fine photoshop, avid video - everything does its job well.

BUT THEN i did rendering in afterffects 6.5 (particles, 3d, etc) that supposed to intensively run for 6 hours. i gues i have not run it such an intensively before. amilo crashed. mouse & screen freezed. ventilation slowed down. only way to get back was to restart with the restart button. since then it is crashing same way with intensive processor operations in afterfeects, photoshop, avid, even flash !!!, as well as in parts of intensive 3d games, symantec virus scanner etc. only action that is persistent - is typing in word but i would never buy 3.2Ghz P4 for typing in word....

before i gave it to service centre i overinstalled all the system, software. try to run it with disabled system extensions and safe system mode. i tried enumeros configurations, settings and softwares. no good results.

the most curiosly is that standart test software like bitpro and constant service centre diagnostics cant find any errors for a weeks. they are trying to give me back it for second time with words "our tests runs perfectly". im going mad.

any suggestion what to do in such a situations. your help is greatly appretiated. thanks!

6 hours on a laptop?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / April 4, 2005 9:02 PM PDT

That should be a desktop job. You'll have to add a cooling pad and set it up almost like a desktop, plus keep the cooling fins clean and cool.

Best of luck with this one.

D 8850 crashing with PhotoShop
by friris / February 10, 2006 3:58 PM PST

It,s some time since you have posted your problems.
I have 2,8Mz, P4 etc. Amilo D 8850 with similar crashing problems. My problems started after one year. Before that time everyting worked well, but then battery died and I sent the machine to service. They replaced battery and updated the BIOS.

After that problems occurred. Opening files in Photoshop freezed, even opening Photoshop freezed Amilo. Back to service and they replaced motherboard (some failure there). But freezing with Photoshop continued, also AutoCad freezes Amilo when canging from one workspace to an other.

Again back to service and they were able to duplicate the freezing but did not find any reason for that. Memory and all replaceable components were tested. Onnly thinf they were able to do was to update the BIOS again.

But crashing continued, now most often with PhotoShop, when opening files through File Browser or when working with layers (cut-paste-transform-scale etc.)

Now Amilo is back in service for third time in a short time and they can't duplicate the problems with PhotoShop...

Were you ever able to solve your problems?

Thanks in advance...friris
