General discussion

Fujitsu

Jul 28, 2004 5:25PM PDT

I really like some of the Fujitsu notebooks, but when I was looking at the support features- it doesn't seem that they have an accidental care service. Does anyone know if I skipped over it?

Also, what are people thoughts on notebooks from Fujitsu? How is the tech support and the overall quality of the notebooks?

Thanks

Just commenting that a friend of mine retails the Fujitsu's and they seem reliable outside of the abuse issues. As to tech support, the same old story. Tech support only is for the hardware and the OS as supplied. If you catch a worm or pest, then don't bother calling them. Today's consumers get rather upset when they find the boundaries of tech support.

I know that the normal tech support doesn't have accident coverage- but I was wondering if there was something I skipped- like an option for it. Or if I purchased one at Fry's; do they provide coverage?

Thanks

Depends on the state.

Some state laws mandate that a copy of the warranty be available before you make a purchase. Use that right if you can to see what the warrany covers and it's terms.

A debatable issue is a recent turn of events is seeing companies reduce warranties to 90 days so to make products available at a lower price Consumers make get caught on these since many think it's one year.

Currently, most larger notebook manufacturers offer the 1 year limited warranty standard (at least on consumer models). This does NOT cover accidental damage -- it covers defects or failure in the notebook parts only from normal use.

HP, Dell, etc. offer longer warranties (3 years +) and they have optional plans for accidental damage. You will have to check this with Fujistu (it would be extra cost but they may offer it -- check their website).

Fujitsu is offered in very few retail stores (Fry's Electronics) is the only one I am aware of -- so any additional warranty coverage you get should be through Fujitsu itself.

In the past (and some business notebooks still offer this standard) there was a 3 year limited warranty but that made the costs of most notebooks over $2,000.

Note that if you buy the notebook on a Credit card that is Gold or Platinum that offers Warranty doubling you can double your 1 year limited warranty to 2 years for free (but this is still limited -- would not cover accidental damage).
