FujiFilm S7000 White Balance question

Oct 23, 2004 1:20AM PDT

I just purchased the 7000 after using a really simple digital camera. I hope to use the AUTO setting for most of my product pictures that are posted on the web. When the flash activates, the color is perfect! Without flash the color tones are terrible. I have played with the "non" auto mode and can sometimes get a nice picture BUT it would be nice if the AUTO setting could properly compensate for flash or no flash. Suggestions???? THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Richard

lighting when the colors are poor? Outdoor, indoor incandescent, flourescent, tungsten, etc. When you are shooting, what is your white balance setting? Are the colors poor, or is there an overall color caste like too much blue or yellow? On my camera, setting white balance does not affect other automatic controls.

Shooting indoor, incandescant light. Set at automatic. I used Photosuite to adjust the pictures and the following "adjustments" corrected the problem. Cyan-Red +20; Mag-Green +0; Yel-Blue +100. The overall color was "off". THANKS for your input.

According to a review I read of the 7000, when you are in Auto mode you can not alter white balance.

If your photos are off color as much as you say, that sounds like a camera defect.

Get a friend to view your photos and see what they think about the color.

You should view your photos on someone elses computer. There are differences in monitor color setups.

If you still see color problems in Auto mode, see about returning the camera.

how does a print look? If the print is OK, then you know you can correct future pictures. It may also mean, as was said, that the camera is suspect. If the print is not good, you may have a color calibration problem with your monitor.

Not printing any of the pictures. Use them for eBay listings only. Also have 3 computers in use and looks similar on all systems. I will send email to FujiFilm tech support and ask about the difference when using AUTO setting and FLASH vs. NO FLASH. THANKS for the information.

The answer from FujiFilm tech support. Please be advised in Auto mode, the correct white balance may not be obtained for subjects such as close-ups of people's faces and shots taken under a special light source. In such situations, select the correct white balance for the light source. Please refer to pg.60 of the FinePix S7000 digital camera owners manual for additional information.

Does that mean that the white balance you choose will be active even when you are shooting in Auto mode?

Or does it mean that you have to go to one of the manual modes?

I believe that I have to go to the manual mode. I will be using the camera for some pics in a couple of days and will "play" with the settings.
