Fujifilm Finepix F70/F80

Mar 26, 2010 6:11AM PDT

I have been looking for a new point and shoot. Have an old Canon SD300, but wanted to upgrade. Looking for one that is good in low light situations (realizing that it won't be the same as a DSLR), and finally thought that the Fujifilm Finepix F70 would be perfect. Then saw it was discontinued in favor of the F80, which is due for release any day. Need some advice!!! Want to get something soon. $300.00 is the top end of my budget and everything I've read about the F80 says it has improved upon the F70 (with a larger LCD, movie mode). Just wondering if anyone out there has ACTUALLY "touched" an F80 and what they thought!

FujiFilm F80EXR complaint from a new USER
Jan 12, 2011 5:54PM PST

After 3 days of testing my new F80 I'm feeling very frustated. I found that most (not to mention all photos) present a watercolor effect. All details are lost and pictures look as if they were with one of the filters that photoshop offers. I took my 'not-so-new' olympus SP570Z, compare results and I couldn't believe the difference. When you check the photos 100% crop, my new Fujifilm shows 'cartoons' instead of natural face expressions.

Scene modes are useless since the F80EXR uses ISO800 or ISO1600 for ALL scenes modes, (can't do anything about it, it's automatic) and taking into account it's a 1/2" sensor, the noise is really disturbing. In order to get descent photos I have to use EXR DR or SN mode and use ISO100 or ISO200.
But the worst part is the JPG compression that fuji uses in this camera... it simply does not work. I hope I'm not the only one noticing this and hope Fujifilm does something about it and release a firmware upgrade to solve this BIG Issue.

Right now I going to a Diving Safari and the underwater-mode is not an option (ISO800??? are you kidding me?). Gratefully, Fujifilm though about amateur users who wants to set the camera manually and I can use underwater white balance.
