Fuji S5100 vs Canon S1 IS or Sony S90

May 26, 2005 3:51AM PDT

I very new to digital cameras. I bought Sony S90 (paid $239) ( i wanted to buy s60 but Microcenter were out) 4 days ago and have not opened the box yet, I am looking for better Zoom and good Movie options now. Fuji S5100 is $229 and Canon S1 IS is $279, I can not decide which one to get now or keep Sony. I like style of Canon , but Fuji has more MP and less price and at the same time Canon uses CompactFlash(less expensive) and Fuji uses xD Picture card (expensive).

Please suggest.

S5100 - S1-IS - S90

When Sony announced the S60/90 cameras, everyone was thinking it was to be a revival of the old S30/50/70 series of cameras. That would be great........

But the S60/90 turned out to be another ho-hum point-and-shoot camera. It appears to be based on the internal workings of the "W" series and the P100/150/200. And appears to contain their shortcomings.

.........................................

I would narrow your choice to the S5100 and the S1-IS cameras.

Both have:
Shutter priority
Aperture priority
Program AE
Manual

The S90 only has a limited Manual mode.

.........................................

When looking at photos from the S1-IS and the S5100 cameras, I can see almost no difference. Both produce excellent photos.
The S1-IS has the advantage of image stabilization and a disadvantage of a greater price.

They appear to have almost identical specifications for video. The S1-IS will produce the better looking videos due to image stabilization.

.........................................

This would be a difficult decision.
It may be time for a coin toss.

This answers my question.

I will not keep Sony.

Thanks again.
