Fuji Camera software

Dec 29, 2004 6:06AM PST

Hi, just bought a reconditioned Fuji Finepix S7000 digital camera. After installing the software I get a pop up error message saying: "The file FINEPIXVIEWER.EXE associated with DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx does not exist". I have tried reinstalling the software 5 times and get the same error message. Any ideas? Thanks, John Win98se IE6.1 256ram

j, Have You Tried Installing DirectX ?
Dec 29, 2004 6:23AM PST

A current version of DirectX should install that file. Check for your version of DirectX by clicking on Start-Run, type dxdiag.exe, then click on OK. When the DirectX diagnostic page loads, you should be able to see the DirectX version you have installed.

If you are not currently at DirectX 8.1 or higher, and because you have Windows 98 and an unknown video card, please download DX 8.1 from the link below:

DirectX 8.1 Runtime for Windows 98 and Windows Me

There is a newer version but there are no guarantees that your current video card will support it. It's supported in Windows 98, but older cards sometimes have issues. Here's that link:

DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Grif. I did install both of the DirectX links you supplied but still have the same problem. One thing though, after those installations, my version still says 4.09.00.0904. Any more ideas? Thanks, John

John, a question.
Dec 30, 2004 5:25AM PST

Did you install the Windows 98 drivers. A lot of the new hardware uses Windows XP as the default. You have to physically choose the 98 drivers yourself. Not in Windows
right now or I would check my Fuji Finepix. Sorry about that. The 98 OS might have been detected and the
drivers loaded. Or not. Worth a check. chuck

Good idea but I installed and reinstalled a few times to be sure and with no results. I did end up finding a larger bundled download on a different Fuji page and that worked for me although doesn't have all the features that the original software claims to haveI'm thinking that the cd I have for the camera, which at first glance appeared to download correctly, (icons etc.) is corrupted. Thanks for your help, John
